Attended by senior level information security and IT executives, the Security Leaders Summit℠ - Central 2011 was held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the InterContinental Hotel Dallas in Dallas, Texas. Focused on the expanding role of the CISO as a key business leader, presentations included trends, an overview of the threat landscape, interviews on stage with leading CISOs, panel discussions, best practice sessions, and interactive roundtables with topics on cloud computing and mobility.

 

Summit Recap

The morning keynote kicked off with Emcee Renay San Miguel,Chief Content Officer and Host/Managing Editor of Splash Media. A former anchor and reporter for CNN/CNN Headline News in Atlanta, he staffed the military desk during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, reported on technology, and won Carnegie Mellon's Cybersecurity Journalism Award.

 

The Summit's morning keynote was Senior Research Analyst Ted Ritter with Nemertes Research, a research advisory firm. A frequent speaker at major technology events in the U.S. and abroad and an expert on security, cloud computing, virtualization, Internet infrastructure, and data centers, Ted discussed the latest trends and what is top of mind for C-level technology executives as it relates to security.

 

Summit hosts, David Stanowick, VP, Chief Information Security Officer of Alliance Data and Dustin Wilcox, Chief Information Security Officer of Centene Corporation shared their thoughts on what it will take for CISOs to be successful in this fast paced environment.

 

Mike Monticello, Senior Threat and Intelligence Researcher within the IBM Managed Security Services Intelligence Center shared results of their newly-released study. The study specifically focused on all aspects of online threats that affect Internet security at organizations around the world and what organizations are doing to protect their enterprises against attack.

 

After lunch, Summit attendees broke out into roundtables to discuss latest issues on topics from mobility to identity and access management.

 


The focus of the afternoon panel discussion, "What's Keeping CISOs Up at Night?" included input from Summit hosts, Gene Scriven, Chief Information Security Officer, Sabre Holdings, John Iatonna, Vice President of Information Security, Edelman and Caleb Merriman, Chief Information Security Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield Minnesota.

 

Brenda Callaway, Executive Director of Health Care Services Corporation discussed how their organization is adapting to the fast paced mobile environment and the challenges it brings to their company.

 

Summit host, Richard Dorough, Chief Information Security Officer of Textron, discussed how he is managing his organization through changes in business needs, economy, technologies, and threats as his "footprint" of responsibilities continues to expand.
