Central Summit OverviewThe Security Leaders Summit℠ - Central 2012 was held Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the InterContinental Hotel, Dallas, Texas. The senior level IT executives in attendance represented 28 industries and 11 states.

Summit Recap

Roger Caslow The morning opened up with Keynote Speaker, Roger Caslow, former Chief Risk Officer, with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. With experience serving as an intelligence officer, strategic planner, and security professional for the Defense Intelligence Agency, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and most recently the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Roger shared insights into the information security programs he has built, challenges he faced in a time of significant budget constraints, opportunities and approaches, and his strategies for success. An interesting fact he brought to light was the result of a study correlating insider threats with employees with anger management issues.

 

 

Richard Warner Summit Emcee, Richard Warner, business commentator on Atlanta FOX5, interviewed Gary Long, Chief Security Officer of ITWorks Operations, a business unit of Cerner Corporation in the session "Game Changers". Gary shared insights into the challenges of the healthcare industry, his focus on mobility, new talent, and what he is doing to drive innovation at his organization.

Dr. Mike LloydOne of the highest rated sessions of the day by Summit attendees, "Trends, Drivers, and Impacts", Dr. Mike Lloyd, Chief Technology Officer with Platinum Sponsor, RedSeal Networks, presented on Automation vs Complexity: How Simple Errors Turn Into Crises, and How To Stop Them. In this session, Dr. Lloyd brought to light how the realities of constant network change, escalating infrastructure complexity, and the ever-present compliance burden have trapped security teams in an endless game of catch-up. Through customer and real world examples, Dr. Lloyd showed how metrics derived from automation enable organizations to handle change, prioritize efforts based on risk, and demonstrate the effectiveness and real value of security in an organization.

 

 

Executive RoundtableAnother top session rated by attendees was the "Executive Roundtable" discussions. Facilitated by Summit Hosts, the roundtable topics provided the opportunity for peer-to-peer interaction and discussion across nine different topics.

 

 

Mike Montecillo In the session, "Driving the Security Agenda", Summit Emcee Richard Warner interviewed Univita Health executives, Paul Kay, CIO and David McGuire, Vice President of Risk Management. During the interview, Paul and David provided insight into how they support each other's organization, how they have developed a united front in working with their business units, and how they work together to ensure the success of their company's information security agenda.

 

Brian TokuyoshiBrian Tokuyoshi, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Palo Alto Networks, Gold Sponsor, presented on the "Five Facts of Application Usage on Enterprise Networks – What's on Your Network?” In this session, Brian walked the attendees through the behavior patterns of application usage in the enterprise, based on actual network traffic from data captured from 1,636 enterprise organizations around the world.

In the closing session of the day, Lee Parrish, Vice President & Chief Security Officer, Parsons Corporation and Brian Wrozek, Head of Information Security, Director, Texas Instruments, led the panel discussion "Taking the Security Agenda to the Next Level". The panel focused on what it take to ensure that the security agenda of an organization not just keeps pace, but is positioned for success for the future.
